Helicopters
Anything that applies to real
helicopters also applies in the simulator.
Some simplified details are
left out, in particular the engine handling and some over-stresses are not
simulated or are without any consequence.
Instruments
Instruments that lag in real
helicopters, also lag correctly in the simulator, gyro drift is built
correctly, the magnetic compass is subject to aircraft body forces...
Instruments and system
failures are also recreated accuratly.
If the vacuum fails, the gyros spin down slowly with a corresponding
degradation in response as well as a slowly increasing bias/error.
All things that make real world flying a
challenge are recreated.

Aircraft Carriers
There is support for Aircraft Carrier operations on
the Nimitz, (located near San Francisco) and Eisenhower.The carriers are equipped
with catapult, arrester wires,
elevators, TACAN and FLOLS and are currently available for aircraft using the
YASim FDM (in particular the Seafire, A4F and Sea hawk.)
Learn how to locate, land and
take off on the carrier. landings are better
described as “controlled crashes” and you shouldn't waste your time attempting
to flare and place the aircraft gently on the deck like you would with a
conventional landing - ensuring that you catch the wires is the main thing.
If you wish, you can then set
the elevators from the ATC/AI menu, taxi onto one of the elevators, lower it
(uncheck the box on the menu) and taxi off into the hangar.
If after a little practice
you find the Seahawk is a little too easy for your skill level, you can move on
up to the Seafire for bit of a bigger challenge!
Multiple Displays
Pro Flight simulator allows
you to connect multiple instances of the program together to display different
views of the simulation though a highly flexible I/O subsystem.
For example, you may want to
have the aircraft panel displayed on a screen
in front of you, while the view forward is displayed on a different
screen or using a projector. Using multiple monitors can greatly improve the
realism of the simulation.
Given enough hardware, you
can create sophisticated simulation f4u-finalenvironments with panels,mock up
cockpits,different views, or even a separate control station allowing an
individual to fail instrumentation, change weather and so on. An example of
this is the 747 cockpit project.

air-to-air Refueling
As of right now, there are 2
ta aircraft tanker's (KC135-E and KA6-D) and three receiving aircraft (A4F,
Lightning and T38) capable of in-air refueling.
When flying in one of the
above aircraft in the default scenery area, one can locate the tanker aircraft
using air-to-air TACAN and/or radar and then receive a full or partial load of
fuel by flying in close formation behind the tanker.
Refueling is possible between
aircraft in Multi Player mode also.
The KC 135 is a boom equipped
fueller, while the KA-6 uses a hose.
The lightning and A4F are
each fitted with a probe for hose refueling while the T-38 is fitted with a
boom receiver.
