The R-22 is a very versatile machine and has been available in all sorts of different configurations, from police units, marine units, to agricultural units. The most powerful of the fleet is the R22 beta 2 and the most common helicopter used for training is the Robinson R22 IFR.Uses for this machine are numerous but some the more common uses are pilot training, police units, news crew unit's, cow herding and agricultural.
The power is received from a Lycoming flat four piston engine (0360A2B) and comes with horsepower ratings ranging from 124 hp up to the most powerful being the beta 2 at 160 hp detuned to 131hp. The main rotor is a two blade as well as the tail rotor.
The R 22 maximum speed is around 180km.h with an initial climb rate of about 1200 feet per minute. The dry weight is roughly 800 pounds with a maximum take off weight of 1300. The fuselage length is 20 feet 8 inches, main rotor 25 feet 2 inches , which makes the helicopter easy to put on and haul on a trailer making very easy to transport.
This aircraft also has it own T bar control instead of the traditional cyclic stick. The controls are full manual and very sensitive, the helicopter is also very light which means you feel even the slightest bite of wind while flying. The Pro Flight Simulator R22 is no different from the real deal, you will notice how very real this simulation is once you start playing around with the helicopter in it.
